Meredith A. Disney
Meredith A. Disney was actively involved with "LodeStar Pictures" for over thirty-five years. She established the private film financing entity to help filmmakers who were unable to obtain traditional bank or other film financing with LodeStar’s personal “seed financing” enterprises. Meredith originally mortgaged some personal family properties of her father to obtain the "seed" funds she made available to various independent filmmakers (most often some personal friends) so that feature films in their early initial efforts could begin actual production.
The enterprise was initially named “LodeStar Pictures” and also has had a presence online for many years. The enterprise was originally launched in Kansas City, Missouri. Later on LodeStar offices were in California at Paramount Pictures-Motion Picture Associates Division in Hollywood and then Walt Disney Studios in Burbank and finally back in Hollywood directly across from the Kodak Theatre (later renamed the Dolby Theatre) located at Hollywood Boulevard & Highland Avenue and presently the home to the annual Academy Awards Oscar® presentations and many other Hollywood productions.
Even though many independent film-financing entities have emerged across many years, Meredith Disney insisted that her involvement would remain mostly confidential and this gave her the freedom to make personal decisions on projects to her liking and she would assist with her seed financing without the burden of being duly influenced by other outside sources. Nowadays, and in todays environment, and for the most part, film financing is, in most instances: "a very unwieldy process!"
Meredith A. Disney was married to Raymond Arnold Disney, one of the older brothers of Walt Disney. Close friend Edna Francis (later Edna Disney, she married Roy Oliver Disney) introduced Meredith to Raymond at a church social when she and Meredith both were employed by The Kansas City Times newspaper. Meredith and Raymond had one son Charles Elias Disney and one adopted son Daniel Harwood Disney.
Right up until the time when Meredith Disney passed away as the result of a terrible automobile mishap, she was heavily engaged in reading and critiquing many film scripts that were submitted to her from many sources. Reading these scripts and film stories was something she greatly enjoyed, and very often Meredith would spend long days and nights reviewing scripts and stories as personal favors to friends that her LodeStar Pictures enterprise likely would never become actively involved with! She was always considerate of others and so she would welcome the opportunity to personally help others by thoughtfully critiquing their work and by making sound recommendations!
